Foothills Trail Shelter:

Shelter: Silicone Tarp 10 x 12

Comments:
A carryover from my Appalachian Trail thru hike.  Sleeps four.  Way too big for one person.  I sewed on tie-outs for versatility and to pull the weight of the side walls away, which greatly increased the room.

Shelter Extensions/Additions:

Insert: Homemade Bug netting and groundsheet

Comments:
Homemade groundsheet with bug netting.  Absolutely treasure this "one-of-a-kind" homemade product.  I still cannot think of a better product for me: against bugs, comfort (ability to eat & move around in buggy situations), and groundsheet.  Sleeping on ant piles the last nite of the trip allowed ants to enter a small rip in one of the corner tie-outs.  After stuffing the rip with dirty clothing, the ants were kept outside.

T-Shirt:  Short sleeve, my Appalachian Trail thru hike shirt (anti-microbial fabric).

Shorts:  Love 'em.  Ladies Luv 'Em style.  Feel like nothing on, and dry super fast.

Foothills Trail Sleeping Pad:

Pad: 3/4 Ridge Rest

The Ridge Rest was my favorite pad at time of hike, a little pricey, but beats the weight of the Walmart blue.

Foothills Trail Backpack:

Backpack:  Golite Breeze

Comments:
A carryover from my Appalachian Trail thru hike.  I think the Breeze is still the best bag on the market for price and durability.  It's a common sense bag, with no frills, except for those ice loops.

Foothills Trail Footwear:

Shoe:  New Balance 807s

Expensive, and work for the Foothills Trail Thru thru hike and my daily life...can hold hiker "funk" for quite some time.

Foothills Trail Socks:

Socks: Wright Socks

Comments:
My favorite socks as of date.  They do not last as long as I would like, but they are comfortable.  Thicker socks never dry.  Between the rain and sweat, thicker socks will not dry, and that does not work day after day for me.

Foothills Trail Cooking Equipment:

Pot: Walmart Grease Pot, Primus Stove, Lexan Utensil

Comments:
Walmart Grease Pot:  Cheap.  Can easily be replaced (not necessary, just a possibility).  Lite.  Collects food under the brim of the pot.

Foothills Trail Light:

Light: Petzl Tikka

Comments:
Can nite hike with, has good battery life, and is a quality product.  I would like a lighter lite, but am not for photons.

Foothills Trail Water Treatment:

Treatment: Portable Aqua w/ 2 Gatorade Bottles

I wanted to take Aqua Mira, but I waited too late and had to go with what the local hiking store carried.  Portable Aqua is carried at Walmart for half the price at hiking stores.  The water on the Foothills Trail is abundant, I only carried two bottles.  While I hiked, I only had one with water in it.  The second bottle was used for holding extra water at lunch and dinner.  If I hike the Foothills Trail again, I would opt to not use any water treatment.
